Chuck: Season One

I’m glad these discs finally came in. I started watching Chuck recently, and kind of have been hooked since. I knew the basics of what had happened in season one, but now I’m much better informed. I know it’s only an adventure comedy type of show, but it still is pretty well written and layered, so it helps having seen season one.

When Chuck (Zachary Levi) a twenty-something computer geek inadvertently downloads critical government secrets into his brain, his former college friend turned CIA recruits him as a secret agent, all while keeping him out of evil hands. Sounds a bit confusing, right? It can be, but it doesn’t really matter, because all the characters are so funny and offer so much that some of what would be lacking if this were a drama doesn’t matter so much. This is definitely a show I recommend.

Episodes:
1. Pilot
2. Chuck Versus the Helicopter
3. Chuck Versus the Tango
4. Chuck Versus the Wookie
5. Chuck Versus the Sizzling Shrimp
6. Chuck Versus the Sandworm
7. Chuck Versus the Alma Mater
8. Chuck Versus the Truth
9. Chuck Versus the Imported Hard Salami
10. Chuck Versus the Nemesis
11. Chuck Versus the Crown Vic
12. Chuck Versus the Undercover Lover
13. Chuck Versus the Marlin

The Blu-rays are presented in 1.78:1 widescreen and encoded at 1080p. An example of how far high definition has come in recent years, particularly in television. This looks even better than it would in a high definition broadcast. Colors are robust and strong throughout, blues especially. Blacks are incredibly detailed. Overall, detail is as good as you would get in a recent high budget feature film. No problems here.

On the audio side, we have a Dolby Digital track that’s surprisingly robust for a show like this. It’s not a low grade comedy, but its not 24 either. But it kind of sounds like it, though. Bass is heavy, and rocks the seats. Surrounds are constant throughout.
