| | In film history, its hard to find a sequel that’s superior to the original. A few come to mind. The Godfather Part 2, Aliens, and now The Dark Knight. Christopher Nolan’s follow-up to Batman Begins is definitely the best superhero film I’ve ever seen. Its dark and layered, and it of course features one of the best performances of the year.
Christian Bale returns as Bruce Wayne, fully embracing his role as savior of Gotham. His romance with Rachel fizzled out due to his dual life. The new game in town is Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), the beloved prosecutor who’s cracking down on the criminals of the city. But there is a new menace in town. Heath Ledger as Joker is one of the greatest villains of film history. Unlike the original film, there is no backstory for him. He’s violent through and through, and soon he’s consolidated the criminals of the city in an effort to kill “the batman”.
Since Katie Holmes has been kidnapped by Tom Cruise, she couldn’t return for the sequel. Maggie Gyllenhaal is far superior, though. She’s Harvey’s new squeeze, and everything works out for them in the end. Wait, no it doesn’t.
There are so many wonderful twists and turns in this film, its difficult to summarize it without giving anything away. Just be certain that its amazing.
This Blu-ray is presented in 2.35:1 widescreen and encoded at 1080p. Its an absolutely outstanding transfer in every single aspect. There's a whole lot of special effects, and while. Colors are overall very strong and vibrant. Black detail is top notch as well. There aren't any problems with grain, or softness. There are basically no imperfections.
Uncompressed PCM Surround audio gives a truly immersive mixes, and one of the better ones I've heard in awhile. Dynamic range is perfect. Bass is incredibly strong. e do get some strong bass that kicks in pretty heavy when the music blares on the soundtrack. Dialogue sounds incredibly clear as well. The audio adds an immersive element that is definitely a step above. |
