Mummy, The: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

I know a lot of people disagree with me, but I hate The Mummy franchise. So dear reader, keep that in mind while you read this review. Its simply not my cup of tea. I usually like Brendan Fraser, but I simply don't care for him in this. I know its probably just my cynicism rising to the surface, and I should just sit back and enjoy. I understand that its supposed to be fun, I get it.

We see the impact of Indiana Jones on all of The Mummy films. But its simply nowhere near the level of good old Indiana. Brendan Fraser, while capable as a star, is no Harrison Ford. But these quibbles may not be fair, since most films are not on that same level. But I still found it to be relatively boring.

The thing about tongue-in-cheek is that there is a limit. Camp can be fun, but it has to be done cleverly. While much of the original Mummy was clever, by the third film its an unbelievable pile.

Presented in 2.40:1 widescreen and encoded at 1080p, this Blu-Ray is truly an incredible transfer and sure to be a reference disk. This is a cgi-heavy film, and this disc truly highlights it. The effects look beautiful, with minimal to no noise on the cgi. Colors are incredibly vibrant, with blacks being especially distinct. There is minimal grain on the picture. Audio is Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 Surround, and its equally stunning. Its freakin non-stop with the surrounds. An incredibly immersive experience is to be had by all.
