August Rush

Don't tell anybody, but I really liked this movie. It seems that I am a woman because of this, however. Its definitely a romantic chick flick, and its rated PG for Christ's sakes. However, I am a girl.

I guess its pretty crazy that a movie about a one night stand and a love child comes within a PG rating. But the filmmakers play it really safe that the very young won't even realize, and definitely won't ask their parents awkward questions.

Lyla Novacek (Keri Russell) is a brilliant cellist who has just finish performing a concert in New York City. Lyla goes out on the town with her girlfriend and end up at a party near New Yorks Washington Square. She meets Louis Connelly (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) an Irish guitar player. They share the love of music and end up falling in love and getting it on that night. It was the most wonderful night in Lylas life. Lyla must rush back to the hotel where her father Thomas (William Sadler) is waiting for her.

Years later, Lyla has a child named Evan. But they call him August Rush. He's a musical prodigy, and obviously his father's son. But Evan isn't with Lyla. He escapes from an orphanage rather than be placed with a foster family. He begins the search for his family, and believes through the power of music he can find his parents.

One problem with this movie. Robin Williams. Why does this man continue to subject the moviegoing public to his particularly unfunny and untalented brand of performing. He was only funny when he was a cokehead, and even then he was only good in very very very small doses.
