Wire, The: The Complete Fifth Season

Its a difficult statement to make, and I often make it- and have finally stopped taking it back. The Wire is better than The Sopranos. Its the best show in the history of television. Those who don’t watch it don’t know. Season 5 is excellent. Imagine for a moment if Tony Sopranos was killed off in an early season of that show. Imagine if it continued and the next season was even more badass than the one prior. That’s The Wire. It just gets better and better.

Season 5 covers the the continuing reign of Marlo Stanfield, the new heroin overlord of West Baltimore. And Jimmy McNulty is back. Thank you God. He is a drunk psycho again, the one we always knew and loved. He does some fucked up stuff this season. Season 5 also introduces an entire new set of characters at the Baltimore Sun, led by the fearless leader Gus (Joe Chappelle).

The cast of characters, of course, grows and old ones come back. The Wire would be incomplete without Omar, the imperfect hero of the drug trade. Ripping and robbing through Baltimore, Omar is the baddest mofo to ever walk those streets. And he happens to be extremely gay. If you have a problem with that, Omar has no problem with brutally murdering you.
