South Park continues its run on DVD with the release of season 6 this week. Season 6 saw a good return to some solid laughs thanks to the guys trying to replace a dead and gone Kenny. Butters is classic stuff. Also we get a lot of outed Mr. Garrison plus plenty of other toilet jokes that just run amuck. Season 6 keeps up the good a/v work that Paramount has presented in the previous 5 season releases.
The sixth season of South Park features episodes presented in 1.33:1 full frame. The presentation here for season 6 seems on par with the other seasons. The image is sort of clear, meaning not up to par with a higher production value animated show, but still rather clear looking. Very clean, no print issues. Colors are nicely bright with no bleed or shimmer. The compression job seems solid with no artifacting or problem areas. What more would you expect from Paramount?
Audio is Dolby Digital Stereo. Audio is simple stuff but clear and of good volume so the dialogue comes through in all its glory. Directional cues are used well and everything is clear and distortion free.
Matt and Trey provide mini-commentaries for each episode that tend to run for a minute or two and that’s about it. Funny and good to get their insight to an episode. Also you get some Comedy Central previews for a few of their shows.
Season 6 was a pretty good return to form for the crew. Lots of classics here, with many new characters and setups. A lot of the repetition is replaced finally. Paramount continues to do a fine job with the season releases and season 6 is as good as any other. Better really though when it comes to content as season 6 just has a lot more laughs to go around.
